On 28 December 1996 His Majesty Norodom Sihanouk, King of Cambodia called and chaired a three hour working session on the issue of Child Rights which was attended by ministers of Education, Social Affairs and Industry and some parliamentarians. His Majesty stressed the need for additional legislation to reflect the Convention on the Rights of the Child in Cambodia's laws and decrees and expressed his active support for programmes working towards the elimination of hazardous and exploitative child labour.
